Grief & Loss Counselling on the Gold Coast

Space to Talk About Loss at Your Own Pace

At The Boss Shift Counselling, we offer grief counselling on the Gold Coast for people living with bereavement and other significant forms of loss. Grief is individual, and counselling does not require you to follow a set timeline or describe your experience in a particular way.

Sessions can give you space to talk about what has changed, the emotions or practical pressures surrounding the loss and the parts of daily life that feel most relevant to discuss. When loss is connected with a major change in roles or identity, our stress counselling page also covers life transitions and adjustment.

Appointments are available in Hope Island and online for individual clients. To ask about grief counselling, call or text 0499 778 237.

What Grief Counselling Can Make Room For

Grief can involve many kinds of thoughts, emotions and practical changes, so sessions are shaped around the experience you bring.

Bereavement

You can talk about the death of someone important and what the loss means in your life. There is no requirement to move through grief in a set order.

Relationship loss

Counselling can include separation, divorce or the end of another significant relationship. The focus can include both emotional and practical changes.

Identity & role changes

Loss can alter routines, responsibilities and how you see your place in daily life. These changes can be discussed without assuming what they should mean to you.

Ongoing reminders

Anniversaries, places, belongings or family events can bring grief back into focus. Sessions can explore how these moments fit into your current experience.

How a Grief Conversation Is Shaped

A first grief counselling session usually begins with whatever part of the loss feels most important to explain. You might talk about what happened, who or what was lost, how your day-to-day life has changed or what has prompted you to seek support now. There is no expectation to tell the whole story in one appointment.

We'll follow the information you choose to share and clarify what you would like future sessions to make space for. Some appointments may focus on memories, while others may focus on relationships, responsibilities, uncertainty or practical changes. The structure remains guided by your circumstances rather than a fixed grief timetable.

If practical changes such as routines, family roles or upcoming events are part of the loss, we can include those details when deciding what to discuss next.

Frequently Asked Questions

Grief does not follow one universal timeline or sequence. People can experience changes in intensity, focus and emotion over time, and counselling can make space to discuss that individual experience.

No. Grief can also follow separation, changes in health or ability, major life transitions and other significant losses.

A counselling session does not require you to describe every detail immediately. You can begin with what feels manageable to discuss and decide how much information you want to share as the conversation develops.
