Relationship Counselling on the Gold Coast

A Structured Space for Relationship Conversations

At The Boss Shift Counselling, we provide relationship counselling on the Gold Coast for couples who want a structured place to discuss communication, recurring conflict or changes affecting the relationship. Sessions are not based on deciding who is right or wrong. The focus is on understanding the interaction both people describe and the issues they want to address.

Relationship counselling can include disagreements, trust concerns, changing roles, parenting pressures or feeling disconnected over time. Where anger is a recurring part of conflict, our anger management page explains the individual counselling service available for that concern.

Relationship appointments are currently offered face-to-face in Hope Island. To ask about relationship counselling, call or text 0499 778 237.

Issues That Can Be Discussed Together

Relationship counselling can cover different concerns depending on what both people bring to the appointment and what is happening in the relationship.

Communication patterns

Sessions can examine how conversations begin, where they tend to break down and what each person is trying to communicate. The focus stays on specific interactions.

Recurring conflict

You can discuss arguments that return around the same topic or follow a familiar sequence. Mapping that sequence can make the pattern easier to describe.

Trust & change

Relationship changes, breaches of trust or periods of uncertainty can be discussed when they are relevant. Both people have space to explain their perspective.

External pressures

Work, parenting, grief, finances or major transitions can affect how partners interact. These pressures can be included as context rather than treated separately from the relationship.

How a Joint Counselling Conversation Begins

The first relationship counselling appointment usually starts with each person describing what has brought them to the session and what they would like to discuss. We may ask for examples of recent interactions, how disagreements tend to unfold and whether there are particular topics that feel difficult to raise at home.

Both people can clarify their perspective and any priorities they want included in later sessions. We then organise the discussion so the main themes are clear and both viewpoints can be described. Relationship counselling at The Boss Shift Counselling is currently conducted in person in Hope Island, so the appointment takes place at the practice rather than online.

We can revisit those priorities as circumstances change. Priorities can also change over time.

Frequently Asked Questions
